Applying to Year 1

To apply to the 1st year of NS, you need to fill out an application form and fax it to us in Ottawa. The NS fax number is 1-613-244-0058.

Applications should be submitted by April 15th. Selections are usually announced in early June.

Twenty-two 1st year students are selected each year. Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are usually 50-60 applicants for the 22 positions in the 1st year, so we regret that not all qualified applicants get accepted. We try and select students who represent a cross-section of communities in Nunavut; if possible, we also try and maintain a balance between men and women.

Most 1st year students are between the ages of 17 and 21, although we occasionally take students who are in their late 20s or even in their 30s.

Practically all incoming students have completed Grade 12. These academic skills are considered necessary to be successful at NS, where the workload and the performance requirements are at a college level.
