CONTEMPORARY ISSUES
Over the past 30 years Inuit in Canada have created a variety
of regional, national and international organizations, all
with the goal of regaining control of their affairs and improving
Inuit society. Students study the history and role of organizations
such as ITK, ICC, ICI, Pauktuutit,NTI , ICSL and IBC.They
also look at some of the specific issues these organizations
have dealt with, including the standardization of Inuktitut,
broadcasting and communications, animal rights, environmental
issues, whaling and other current circumpolar issues. Students
also study the structure and workings of the new Nunavut Government
in this course.
